-=CHEAT THE LOOK=- How it got made, and whether it worked

"Cheating The Look"

Every frame is a decision somebody made, hoping it works.

Two buildings forty miles apart get cut together like they belong. The streets are always wet in cities it never rains in. Actors talking to tennis balls on sticks instead of the other actor three feet away. Moving the furniture around instead of the actors because you need that specific shot. Moonlight comes from a condor. Rig pigs. Green screens. Blue suits. VFX. Post paint. Make up. Costume. Audio clean up. Foley.

On a set you cheat constantly. Cheating is a set instruction, not an accusation. Every bit of that is a lie built on purpose, construction meant to be read as real and true, or to tell you a fantastical story to entertain you. This site is about whether disbelief was suspended, or why the masses grabbed the pitchforks and headed for The Hills.

What to expect

I write it up by what I see, what I hear, and what I feel the point was. Sometimes it won't be so nice. I do this because I like to keep my own craft sharp, not for anyone else. There will be spoilers.

No shilling. No cut rate, substandard reviews you are used to. There are nine hundred other rag tag sites for that and they all regurgitate the same junk.

I'm not telling anybody what to watch, and I do not care if you don't like what I say because it differs from your own opinion of the film. The only people worth listening to about a film are the ones who actually made it. Everyone else's opinion is fodder for the meat grinder.

My opinion doesn't matter either. It's just mine.

It's about the love I have for the craft.
