I gave this half a star out of five the first time, back in March, before I started keeping this file.

I do not remember it being that bad. Half a star from me says a lot, so I went back to check my own rating, which is the only reason this write up exists.

More James Newton Howard. The opening score sounds like some weird Danny Elfman Mars Attacks sound.

Shaky handheld when the construction foreman runs to check on the guy who jumped off the roof. It only lasted about five seconds and it was terrible (I hate shakey cam for numerous reasons).

That might be what did it. Meaning the half star. Five seconds of handheld, in a ninety minute film, and I apparently took the whole thing down to the bottom of the scale over it. That is worth me knowing about myself, and it is worth you knowing about me before you read anything else I write.

The restraint from showing certain types of deaths. You get enough before the camera flips to something else, but with that just enough, and the audio of it, you know exactly what was happening.

Shammy is always good for that, and I enjoy a movie that forces me to use my imagination, because everyone's imagination is usually worse than what they could have put on film.

I remember liking the science and the intelligent part of this movie. All of Shammy's stuff is intelligent when it comes down to it.

One of the reasons I did not like this movie before: the happening does not happen all over the world, or even all over the United States. It is centralized on the upper east coast, and then at the end it jumps to France for some reason. If the plants were trying to protect the earth, they would have hit all the major cities with high population. It makes me think he specifically targeted the place where he grew up for some reason other than nostalgia for his home town.

I liked that they put the speaking tube in the movie. That is a bit of history most people are not aware of, and a LOT of certain old houses have those types of things in them, for reasons you can go find out on your own about.

And there is an old silver iPhone with the black bottom being used.

Overall ●●○○○

Overall the premise was good, a unique story, which is something he is good at and part of why I like him. I have bumped it up from half a star to two stars. Overall it was not bad, just some big caterpillar-eaten holes in the leaves.

It won none of them; The Love Guru took that year. It took third place for Worst Film at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, second for Biggest Disappointment of the Year at the Golden Schmoes, and it won Worst Film of the Year outright from the Internet Film Critic Society.
